“Green Generation: Schools Engaged in Climate Action” is part of the multi-year regional initiative “Sunny Schools in the Western Balkans”, implemented by the Open Society Foundation Western Balkans. The regional initiative includes the installation of solar panels in selected schools across North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo*, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania, research on the green transition at the level of the participating countries, and an educational component focused on working with primary school students in the fields of environmental protection, just energy transition, sustainable development, green skills, and education.
The educational component of the initiative, titled “Green Generation: Schools Engaged in Climate Action,” is implemented by the Belgrade Open School (Serbia), the National Youth Council of Macedonia (North Macedonia), Bonevet (Kosovo*), the Center for Ecology and Energy (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and the Youth Roma and Egyptian Movement (Albania), with the support of the Open Society Foundation Western Balkans.
The educational component aims to contribute to informing teachers, parents, and students in schools about the importance of climate justice, participation in energy policy, and democratization; to contribute to the self-sustainability of schools by strengthening capacities for fundraising and advocacy; and to provide mentoring support to schools for active participation in local decision-making processes.
