The Belgrade Open School, in cooperation with the Renewables and Enviromental Regulatory Institute (RERI) and seven other local partners, successfully conducted the first training within the Civil Society for Energy Transition project.
The project brings together associations that follow the process of drafting and adopting the NECP with the intention of bringing this document closer to the domestic public and presenting its importance for the local community.
What is NECP and why is it important?
The Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) is a key document that should set the goals of the national energy and climate policy, provide a framework for the energy transition process and be an instrument for reaching the long-term goals of the EU energy and climate policy.
NECP is going to be adopted for the period up to 2030 with projections up to 2050 and will define new goals for improving energy efficiency, greater use of renewable energy sources, improving security of supply and reducing energy poverty.
Of particular importance is the establishment of multisectoral cooperation and the inclusion of all relevant ministries, representatives of the private and civil sector, trade unions, the academic and international community in the process of drafting this document due to the complex energy, economic, environmental, economic, health and social components of the process that implies the reduction of coal use and transition to renewable energy sources.
The training was held in Novi Sad on January 17th and 18th and brought together representatives of seven local associations: Center for Environmental Improvement (Belgrade), Energy Cooperative Elektropionir (Belgrade), a New Way (Kraljevo), Local Response (Valjevo), Society of young researchers (Bor), Pro.Tok21 (Smederevo) and the Trade Union Confederation "Nezavisnost" (Belgrade).
The Civil Society for Energy Transition project is focused on the transformation of the domestic energy and climate sector in order to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions, energy independence, democratic and decentralized management of energy and climate policy, through increased participation of civil society in the development and monitoring of the implementation of reforms.
The project is being implemented in the period from December 1, 2022 to March 31, 2024 with the support of the British Embassy in Belgrade.
