Newsletter 11

The 11th Edition of the "Energy, Climate and Environment" Newsletter

22. Aug 2018.

Belgrade Open School presents you the eleventh edition of the monthly newsletter “Energy, Climate and Environment”.

In light of the dynamic development of public policies in the field of environment, climate change and energy - both at national and global level - we think it is important to keep up with trends for all of us interested in these issues. There are many sources of information, as well as events, and it is not always easy to keep track of all of them. We prepared for you the overview of the most important news and events in the previous month, at the level of Serbia, the region, the European Union and at the global level.

The EU – China Summit, held in Beijing on July 16th, was a place form which the new impulse for fight against climate change was given. In the Balkans, the short-term interests of politicians, Chinese investors and construction companies, continued to bring the people into economical, environmental and health dead-end street. Serbia has entered the eco-debt zone on August 1st. In the meantime, fight of local communities and prominent individuals against small hydro-power plant projects has continued, particularly in protected areas. With the new arrangement of the Republic of Serbia and International Monetary Fund (IMF), the restructuring of the Electricity Utility Company EPS was agreed. At the global level, notable investments from rich countries into fossil fuels exploitation in Africa has continued, in spite of Paris Agreement and commitments made in this regard.

These are just some of the topics you can find out more about in the eight issue of the “Energy, Climate and Environment” newsletter, which can be downloaded here. You can access the newsletter archive on this link.

If you have any suggestions on the topics that you would like to read about in our newsletter, or you have any other proposal, feel free to get in touch via email mirjana.jovanovic@bos.rs .

Best regards until the next issue!
