EU Green Week

The EU Green Week – “Green Cities for Green Future”

21. May 2018.

In the week ahead of us, May 21-25, the EU Green Week is celebrated, expecting to attract great number of participants across Europe, through various events and performances all over the EU. The week will start with the grand opening in Utrecht in the Netherlands, which will be followed by the “Green EU Cities’ Summit” Conference (May 22-24). Finally, the EU Green Week will be officially closed in Madrid, Spain.

The topic of this year’s Green Week is titled “Green cities for green future”, which is aimed at raising awareness on the importance of environment protection in urban areas, taking into account that 70% of all Europeans live in urban areas and the fact that European cities have been faced with environmental challenges for a very long time now.

Through the Green Week, the EU wants to point out the means and mechanisms aimed at making cities greener and, therefore, improving the quality of life and working conditions, as well as inspiring local communities to participate in building the sustainable future together.

EU is doing all this by providing technical assistance, financial support and counselling on the means to access urban green planning.

During the week, many events are planned all across Europe, addressing the air quality, noise, waste and water management, as well as many others.

When it comes to Serbia, currently in the EU accession negotiation process, workshops for children and interested public will be organized in Novi Sad, the European Culture Capital in 2021. The workshops, organized from May 21. To May 27. Will provide the people with the opportunity to learn more about the idea and principles of circular economy and sustainable development.
