Mobility of Youth Workers WEBWORK Training Held in Croatia

29. Apr 2017.

The Belgrade Open School, in partnership with the organization Alfa Albona from Croatia, held a training Mobility of youth workers WEBWORK, which was organized in Croatia in Labin in the period from April 24 to 28, 2017. The training attended by 18 youth workers and activists from six countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia).

Skills that young people possess are not compatible with those needed in the labor market. Skill mismatch recognized as one of the key problems in EU countries is even a bigger problem in Western Balkan countries. In these countries, youth unemployment rates in 2016 vary from 31% in Croatia to 54% in Bosnia and Herzegovina and are twice as high as the general population.

Starting from this, participants during the training discussed the challenges young people face in the process of transition from the education to the work and exchanged examples of good practices, programs, and projects that they are implementing in this field. The aim of the training was:

  1. Get feedback on the draft Youth Employment Skills Regional Portfolio, which contains the key skills and competencies needed by young people to find a job easier, which are common to the Western Balkan countries.
  2. Exchange of experience and examples of good practice concerning instruments and tools used by youth organizations, aimed at improving the employability of young people.
  3. 3. Creation of regional non-formal learning programs aimed at developing the specific skills of employability of young people recognized as key based on the Regional Portfolio.

The training was held in the framework of the Erasmus + project WEBWORK (WEstern Balkan Youth Work (s) for Youth Employability). WEBWORK is a regional initiative of six organizations dealing with the problem of youth employment, which aims to create regional (joint) portfolios with key skills and competencies. The portfolio is designed for youth workers engaged in the field of improving the employability of young people. The training aims to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to help young people who are looking for a job.

The Project Western Balkan youth WORK(s) for youth Employability (WEBWORK) is a regional initiative for a common approach to youth employability. The project will be conducted by the Belgrade Open School in cooperation with five other organizations from the Western Balkans region. The main aim of the project is to contribute to the adaptation of youth in the WB region to the rapidly evolving changes in the labor market.
