This document aims to highlight the value and importance protected areas have for regional development and the development of the municipality of Sjenica, as well as the potential risks of an rapid exploitation of energy resources. Special attention is paid to the thermal power plant Štavalj construction project and the potential negative effects this project might have on protected areas and the environment.
