One year academic programme Future Studies is intended for selected students in the final years of studies at Serbian universities who wish to expand their knowledge in the field of social sciences and humanities and acquire skills which they can use at their future professional work.
Future Studies have an aim to acquaint students with main global trends and challenges currently present in the modern world. These studies should provide an answer to the question how is the modern society shaped by following experiences from the past, but also open questions of existential importance for social, cultural, political and anthropological development of a modern man. If we recognise and understand the future, the odds are greater that we will find and create our own place in the great civilisation and historic events that already permeate and shape our life. Future Studies should encourage and develop our interest and debate regarding the most significant directions of movement of the first two decades of the 21st century and allow students the insight into the most important questions that will be posed to the modern mankind in the future: state and society relation, challenges of the post-democratic world, development of the new multi-polar world, ranges of globalisation, sustainable development, question of identity and national state, political unification of Europe and future of the European integrations, media shaping of the world, society of knowledge and new technology, nanotechnology and the new technological revolution, future of the manpower, genetics.
The programme is based on multidisciplinary modules, internship program and final paper.
Multidisciplinary modules have as a goal the development of knowledge, skills and social conscience of students. Modules are divided, according to their contents, into four parts: future of the state and society, future of Europe, future of the socio-economic development and skills of future. Class attendance is obligatory on all modules for all students who enrol in the programme.
Internship consists of two parts: practical and final paper.
Practical work consists of student activities related to performing duties in advance set by the organisation or the institution where the student has practice.
Final paper consists of activities, which, based on professional interests, are suggested by the student. The purpose of the final paper is to enable academic improvement to students within a specific field of research and its ultimate goal is to form and strengthen students’ critical opinion and their clear positioning in a designated sphere of scientific interest. In the framework of the final paper, student conducts his/her research in cooperation with the mentor and with his/her help, and it is desirable, but not required, that id in within the organization or institution in which the student performs the practice.The result of the research project is the final paper which is being published in the collection of papers of the Belgrade Open School.
Academic writing aims to encourage academic interaction between students by improving their methodological and research capacity. It is centered on mastering the basics of the scientific method and focus of its use during the writing final paper.
