Opening Ceremony of the educational program “Empowerment of Roma Young Leadership in Serbia” was held on 30th November 2009 at Aeroklub, Belgrade.
Speakers at the Ceremony were:
Vesna Djukic, General Director of Belgrade Open School
Bernard Rorke, Roma Initiatives of the Open Society Institute
Zeljko Jovanovic, Roma Initiatives of the Open Society Institute
Ljuan Koka, Head of the Roma National Strategy Secretariat, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.

Representatives of governmental and nongovernmental institutions, as well as international institutions which are dealing with Roma issues, prominent individuals and members of the academic community attended the Opening Ceremony.

Regional School “New leaders – New Possibilities”
Belgrade Open School, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Eduardo Frei organized Regional School “New Leaders – New Possibilities” at Palic, from 12th – 18th of July 2009. Participants of the School were representatives of conservative political parties from countries of the Western Balkans region. Through lectures, workshops and simulations participants had a chance to gain new knowledge on politics, democracy, ideologies and development of conservatism, elections and election systems, so as to develop skills of team work, communication, active listening, public performance and negotiation. Acquirement of these knowledge and skills, for future regional leaders, is of crucial importance for process of European integrations and for raising the awareness on importance of cooperation within the region of the Western Balkans.

Regional School “Young Leaders for European Balkan”

Belgrade Open School, Fridrih Ebert Foundation organized Regional School “Young Leaders for European Balkan” at Porec,  Croatia from 3rd – 9th of June 2009.

 

Participants of the School were representatives of democratic political parties from Macedonia, Bosnia nd Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia. Through lectures, workshops and simulations participants had a chance to gain new knowledge on Regional policy of European Union, it influences towards region, election and election systems, as well skills of team work, communication and negotiation. Acquirement of these knowledge and skills, for future regional leaders, is of crucial importance for process of European integrations and for raising the awareness on importance of cooperation within the region of the Western Balkans

Conducted one-day training for public advocacy for participants of the Balkan Youth and Health Project
Trainers of the BOS Center for Capacity Building are successfully conducted one-day training for public advocacy for participants of the Balkan Youth and Health Project. At the training, organised in the Municipal Clinic Novi Beograd, participated 20 youth activists from Belgrade and Novi Pazar. Participants will implement acquired knowledge and skill in public advocacy of youth health protection issues in the process of reform of the health system of Serbia >>>

Training Seminar „Efficient Policy Paper Writing“ for employees of the OSCE Mission, Ministry of Interior and CSO’s

Center for Capacity Building of the Belgrade Open School held the Training Seminar „Efficient Policy Paper Writing“ in the premises of the Mission of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to the Republic of Serbia, in Belgrade, from 14th to 16th of April 2009. The Seminar is supported by the OSCE Mission and was attended by twelve participants - three employees of the Mission itself, five employees of the Department for Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, and four employees of the Civil Society Organizations (Belgrade Center for Human Rights, Centre for Civil – Military Relations and Forum for Security and Democracy).

Training in Policy Paper Writing for the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Belgrade Open School Center for Capacity Building with the support of the OSCE Misssion in Serbia organized and implemented training in Policy Paper Writing for the experts from Burro for Strategic Analyses and Analytical Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Government of Serbia.
The training, for 14 participants, lasted, was realized in Belgrade, Serbia from December 4th to December 8th 2008.

Seminar for young politicians
In cooperation with Foundation Konrad Adenauer, Center for Capacity Building of Belgrade Open School conducted the first seminar within the four-months-lasting Capacity Building Program for members of youth branches of political parties in Serbia. Fifteen members of Youth of Democratic Party of Serbia attended the Seminar. Lecturers were Vladimir Pavićević MA and Milan Sitarski, and covered topics were "Politics and Political Ideology" and "Horizontal and Vertical Division of Power". >>>

Regional School "1968: 40 Years After"
Regional School "1968: 40 Years After" Belgrade Open School, Heinrich Boll Foundation and Balkan Trust for Democracy are organizing Regional School “1968: 40 Years After” which will gather 25 talented students from countries of Formal Yougoslavia, domestic and foreign lecturers and 1968 participants for purposes of marking four decades of events which shaked Europe. School will be held in Rabac, Croatia, from 28th September till 4th October 2008.
The goal of this Regional School is to contribute to the political and academic development in the former Yugoslavia and to enhance regional cooperation of selected outstanding students in the region through dialogue on the political legacy of 1968 and its contemporary outcomes.
Eligible candidates have to be senior (final years) university students, preferably of social sciences, humanities or related topics, who are socially active, have active knowledge of English, and are interested in social and political development in their respective countries and the Western Balkan region.

Application time will last from September 1st till September 15th 2008, and candidates have to submit full application package which includes:

- filled in the application form, which includes the Letter of Motivation;
- transcripts from the university with average grade;
- one letter of recommendation;
- CV.

Regional School for Democracy “New Leaders – New Opportunities”, for representatives of youth branches of political parties, organised in Palic, Serbia by Belgrade Open School, German Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and Dutch Eduard Frei Foundation
The Belgrade Open School and two political foundations the Konrad Adenauer from Germany and Eduard Frei from the Netherlands organised regional political school “New Leaders – New Opportunities”.
The school was organised in Palic (at the lake near Subotica, 200 north of Belgrade, at the border with Hungary), in a period 9 – 15 July 2007.

Participants were representatives of youth branches of the center-right political parties, parties which are members or associated with the European Peoples Party (www.epp.eu): from Serbia (representatives of DSS and G17plus), Macedonia (representatives of VMRO-DPMNE and Albanian DPA), Montenegro (representatives of the People’s Party, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (representatives SDA and Party of Democratic Progress of Republic of Srpska). Through interactive teaching methods, participants had opportunity to obtain additional knowledge from political theory (with emphasize on values of the political center-right), and skills from political practice (unavoidable for good organisation of a party and political success).

Belgrade Open School, in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Serbian Government EU Integration Office, organized another seminar “Training on Writing Effective Policy Papers”. Seminar was held on Zlatibor, in hotel “Ratko Mitrovic”, in period of 23 to 26th March 2006. There were 29 participants, officials of ministries in Serbian Government, Parliament, EU Integration Office, Chamber of commerce and Coordination centre of Serbia and Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohia.

Belgrade Open School in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung has organized Sixth Regional School "Education for Democracy" in period 4-10th June 2005. Participants were representatives of democratic oriented political party and nongovernmental organization from Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Federation BIH and Republic of Srpska), Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro and Kosovo. Through the interactive learning methods participants learned more about democratic values and they also were trained in skills which are very important for their further political engagement.

BOS has published the book "Writing Effective Policy Papers"
Belgrade Open School has published the book "Writing Effective Policy Papers" (Quinn, L., and Young, O.). This book is a guide for policy advisors in Eastern and Central Europe, and has been published in several languages already. With this book, Belgrade Open School is trying to introduce policy papers into the public life in Serbia.
